11 verified funding opportunities accepting applications now$656.0M total program funding trackediAccepting applications now counts verified, fire-relevant programs that are open today (or offer ongoing assistance). Total program funding tracked adds up the total funding each verified, fire-relevant program publishes — mostly national program totals across all applicants, including programs between application cycles. Neither figure is money awarded or available to any one department, or a statement of eligibility.

Methodology

How we verify funding information.

Where Capital Command's funding information comes from, how each opportunity is checked against its official source before departments see it, and what we never do.

Capital Command is an independent commercial software service operated by Wood Capital LLC. It is not a government agency and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for FEMA, DHS, USDA, any state agency, or any funder named on this site. Always confirm current rules, amounts and deadlines with the official source before applying.

Where the information comes from

  • Federal listings from the official Grants.gov search service, checked daily.
  • Official program pages of state agencies, foundations and companies, monitored for changes.
  • Public records used to find funders that support fire and emergency services: IRS exempt-organization data and Form 990 filings, USAspending.gov award records and the Federal Register.
  • Manual checks for official sites that block automated readers. We respect those blocks; a person checks those pages on a schedule instead.

How an opportunity becomes “verified”

  1. We capture the funder's own official page.
  2. Software reads the page and proposes the program's details. Every detail must be backed by text quoted word-for-word from that page; anything that isn't is discarded.
  3. An opportunity is published automatically only if it passes every check in a written policy: the page is the funder's own site or official portal, fire departments are explicitly eligible, the geography is clear, it is open, rolling or recurring, any deadline is in the future, nothing conflicts with other readings, it is not a duplicate, and confidence is high. Every automatic publication is logged and can be reversed.
  4. Everything else waits for a person to review it against the official page. Uncertain, incomplete, outdated or conflicting information is never published as verified.

Keeping it current

  • Published programs are re-checked against their official pages at least every 14 days, and changes are flagged for review.
  • When a deadline passes, the program stops being shown as open.
  • Each program shows its official source link and when it was last verified.

Fiscal years and calendar dates

Federal programs are named for the federal fiscal year that funds them, which runs from October 1 to September 30. A program labeled, for example, “FY 2025” can open for applications in calendar year 2026. We show the program's own fiscal-year label and the actual application dates separately, and the official notice of funding opportunity is always the authority.

What we never do

  • We never guarantee eligibility, an award or a funding amount.
  • We never invent programs, amounts or deadlines, or show an expired program as open.
  • We never use AI to decide which programs match a department; matching is rule-based and explainable.
  • A department's own information and matches stay private to that department.
